Excursion tip from Seehausen:
Wörth Island by rowing boat (only in summer)

Today's hike begins at the culture and conference center in Murnau. We head south across the cultural park, keeping right at the end and following the footpath over the railway tracks and under some mighty lime trees. Shortly before reaching the “Münter House” we have a wonderful view of the Murnau St. Nicholas Church and the Murnau Castle (now the castle museum). Two panels bear witness to these motifs, painted by Wassily Kandinsky and Gabriele Münter, each in 1910. A stele invites us to linger.

Stele 4: Münter House
At the end of the footpath on our left is the Münter House, where Gabriele Münter and Wassily Kandinsky began their artistic work in Murnau in the late summer of 1908. The location and the surrounding landscape had an extremely intensive influence on the development of both artists' new, highly expressive form of expression.
Visiting times: Tue-Sun 14.00 p.m.-17.00 p.m
We keep to the right, walk past a few houses and reach an old oak avenue, Kottmüller-Allee. We soon see a small footpath on the right that leads across the meadow and the train tracks. We take this path, cross the railway crossing and reach Eiblwiesweg. We follow it to the right and at the end turn left onto the footpath. It leads slightly uphill, we reach the next street and turn left. According to the house number. 9 we follow the steps uphill on the right and reach a wonderful viewing point with several benches. The Murnauer Moos lies spread out in front of us, framed by the Alps. We follow the path along the wall and downhill again, cross the street (be careful of traffic!) and follow the sign “Zum Staffelsee”. The footpath begins to the right of the mini golf course with garden café (closed on Mondays outside the Bavarian school holidays), Tel. 0 88 41/4 78 53 and the Trattoria Italiana (no closed day), Tel. 0 88 41/91 78, www.trattoria-italiana .de. During a short detour to the “Ludwigshöhe” hill, we have a wonderful view of the Staffelsee with its islands and Seehausen. The footpath takes us downhill and past several ponds to Seestrasse, which we follow to the left. We cross the street at the former Platzl kiosk on the lake; the “Achele” boat pier is in the bay behind it. Timetable: 0 88 41 / 62 88 33 or at www.seehausen.net.
From here we take the Staffelsee boat to the Seerestaurant “Alpenblick” pier (no day off from May onwards, Thursdays in winter), Tel. 0 88 46/93 00, www.seerestaurant-alpenblick.de, in Uffing. We cross the parking lot and follow the “Staffelseerundweg” footpath. We come across a small street, follow it to the left, reach another street and turn left again. We cross the street after about 50 meters and turn uphill onto a footpath. We cross a small street, follow the footpath straight ahead and then turn left onto a field path. Shortly afterwards we reach a bench with a stele.
Description from Uffing train station
Travel from Murnau by train to Uffing. When leaving the train station we keep to the right, cross the railway crossing and follow Bahnhofstrasse towards the village center. The road leads slightly uphill and shortly before we reach the hill, we turn left into Jochbergstraße and follow it straight ahead. At a small roundabout we follow the field path to the left. After a few meters a bench with a stele awaits us.

Stele 5: Summer retreat in Uffing
From here uniform directions
To continue walking, we turn to the right, pass a small playground, continue straight ahead and reach Bahnhofstrasse. We follow it to the left and later go straight ahead in the big curve into Hechenrainerstraße. We go straight ahead for a bit, follow the right-hand bend, turn left at the next fork and then left again (dead end). Behind the farm on our right we follow the unpaved road to the right, where we reach a small footpath. This path takes us between garden fences, past a crucifix and finally down to the Ach. We continue along this river to the “Vogelmühle”.

Once here, we cross the bridge just behind the weir and continue straight ahead. The path winds through the Vogelmühle farm, leads between two meadows and turns right behind a small bridge. We hike next to the Ach, which picturesquely makes its way through the area. The footpath meets the road and we follow it for about 500 meters. Before the Streicherhof, which you can see in the distance, we turn left. The path leads past wooded and less wooded areas. After about 1,5 km we turn left and the path leads us to the so-called Antlasgraben and walk towards Schöffau. Shortly before Schöffau we come to a tarred road, which we follow to the right into the small town. The small village shop is closed on Wednesday afternoon.

Refreshments and overnight accommodation: Gasthof Lieberwirth, Tel. 0 88 46 / 6 63 (closed on Tuesdays)
The small St. Anna Church, a former pilgrimage church, stands on the village square. In 1552 a devastating fire raged in Schöffau, and around 1620 the church was demolished. Partly rebuilt using original building materials from the 14th century. Previously, the island church in Lake Staffelsee also served as a place of worship for the citizens of Schöffau for centuries. Burial graves from the period 1550 to 1250 BC. BC bear witness to the early settlement of this place.
To continue the hike, we go back a short distance from the village square and turn left in the sharp right-hand bend. We follow Antlasweg to the right past some houses and a farm. We come to a small street, turn right and pass a small pond. At the sign “Uffing 6,4km” we turn right, cross the Spindler estate and choose the middle one of the three streets towards Uffing. It is initially tarred, later a dirt road.

Where the forest begins the path forks. We follow it to the right and soon find ourselves back on the path that we are already familiar with from the way there. We finally get back to the road to Uffing and the Ach and go back the way we came.

Via the Vogelmühle we reach Uffing, where there are various shopping, refreshment and overnight accommodation options, e.g. B. “Gasthof zur Post” (no day off), Tel. 0 88 46 /6 91, www.post-uffing.de.
We return to the “Alpenblick” boat landing stage, take the Staffelsee boat and leave it in Seehausen. If we came by train, we return to Uffing train station and from here drive back to Murnau.
When we arrive in Seehausen, we turn left below the former Fischerstüberl restaurant. We follow the footpath along the bank and after just a few steps we turn right onto the small path that leads us uphill to a wonderful viewpoint. We let our gaze wander over the lake to the island of Wörth, picturesquely framed by the mountain range in the background.
We continue along the footpath on the other side, first keeping left and then immediately right again. We pass the Seehauser Strandbad and turn left into “Rosspoint”. Shortly afterwards we see a small gravel path on the left that leads us to the shore of Lake Staffelsee and to another stele.

Stele 6: Island of Wörth
We stay here, immerse ourselves in the important past of the island of Wörth and end the day in this atmospheric place. As we leave, we follow Rosspoint again and turn left onto the village road at the level of the lido. We follow it to the left, it winds through the houses, past the grocery store and the bakery. Directly in front of the St. Michael church we turn right at the Gasthof zum Stern, Tel.0 88 41 / 33 04, www.gasthof-stern.de (open all day May to September, closed on Wednesdays).
We walk along the beer garden, cross the parking lot, keep right and come to a fresh water Kneipp pool that invites us to tread water. We follow the footpath to the left and reach Seestrasse via a few steps. Here we turn right, use the footpath next to the road, first reach the Murnau Staffelsee lido with the Lido am Staffelsee restaurant (no day off from May to October, in October only Saturdays and Sundays from noon), Tel. 0 88 41 / 98 61, www.lido-murnau.de, and finally back to the kiosk at Achele. We walk the way we came, then cross Seestrasse and now follow the footpath on the left, which gradually leads uphill, along a stream and through old trees. We come to a playground, immediately turn right, cross the street and take the footpath that leads us uphill over a few steps. We come across Kohlgruber Straße (be careful of traffic!), cross it, turn left and after a few meters turn right into Josef-Fürst-Straße. We pass a few houses, then this little street leads into a footpath. Where the path leads to the railway track, we use the crossing (watch out for train traffic!) and then keep left. We are now back on the path on which we started today's hike. We cross the tracks again (this time the Garmisch line, previously the Ammergau line) and shortly afterwards we arrived at the Murnau culture and conference center, Restaurant Auszeit (closed on Monday), Tel. 0 88 41 / 48 87 90, www.restaurant-auszeit. de.
Excursion tip for the summer months: Take the rowing boat to the island of Wörth
From the Achele boat landing stage, we pass the Murnauer Staffelsee outdoor swimming pool next to it and continue on the footpath next to Seestrasse until Burgweg branches off to our left. We follow it until we come to a footpath on the right with the signs “Boat Rental” and “Strandbad”, which we turn into. We pause briefly on the wooden bridge, because from here we have a direct view of the island of Wörth, the Simpert Chapel and the pier. We walk over a wooden footbridge and reach the boat rental shop on our left. You can rent a rowing boat here between April and October (but only if the weather is stable!).
The island of Wörth is privately owned and is home to a herd of cattle. We stay exclusively in the area of the chapel and pier!
