Directions

It can confidently call itself the most varied of the cycle tours in the Blue Land. Tour number 1 offers nature lovers everything their hearts desire with its moorland landscapes, mountain views and monastery gardens, as well as art lovers with its museums and churches and technology freaks with the Walchensee power plant. With lots of swimming opportunities, nature adventures and fitness options. There is plenty of variety on these trails, even for younger cyclists. So one thing is guaranteed: there will definitely not be any boredom on this tour.

After starting at the Großweiler Loisach Bridge, we first go through the tranquil village of Kleinweil and then continue along an old Way of the Cross with ten stations and a small chapel to Zell. The now coming, slightly less attractive stretch along the motorway to Sindelsdorf - the temporary home of the expressionist artist Franz Marc, who belongs to the "Blue Rider" group - should not deter cyclists and can best be ignored by always keeping an eye on them to the right on the magnificent Kochel moors and the mountains behind them. After a visit to Franz Marc's garden house, the route from Sindelsdorf initially leads along partly tarred field paths to the Loisach and along it through a beautiful meadow and later moss landscape with a bird sanctuary where, with a bit of luck and the peace and quiet you can You can see rare birds such as the lapwing, the corncrake or the meadow pipit. In addition to a technical college, the Benediktbeuern Monastery also houses the Center for Environment and Culture, which offers families with children a lot of variety in the form of adventure trails, biotopes and a nature museum. The basilica and the meditation garden are more than worth a visit, as is a hearty break in the local monastery parlor with beer garden.

We continue with a constant view of the Herzogstand, Heimgarten and Jochberg mountains, first through fields and fields over a small bridge and then along the Lainbach to the old Brunnenbach estate. From there the route leads along a hiking trail directly along the Loisach, which flows very slowly, to Kochel. A fitness path and many benches invite you to take longer breaks. When you arrive in Kochel, you can choose to visit the Franz Marc Museum or the Walchensee power plant, take a swimming break in the “trimini” leisure pool with its many water attractions or take a boat trip on Lake Kochel. The tour continues on a very beautiful cycle path that runs alongside a road until just before the monastery village of Schlehdorf. Here, too, it is worth taking a detour to admire the old monastery of the missionary Benedictine nuns with its beautiful church of St. Tertulin and its lovingly designed gardens. In addition, a detour to Lake Kochel or a short hike directly along the shore on the so-called Felsenweg are definitely worth a break before continuing along the Loisach to Lake Eichsee (swimming opportunity) and back to the starting point in Großweil.

Here, too, cyclists have all sorts of entertainment options, such as a visit to the open-air museum on the Glentleiten with its old farmhouses and a folklore museum, or the model railway system with trains that you can control yourself and a stop at one of the town's cozy taverns.
