The Horváth circular route takes you in the footsteps of the famous writer. Explore buildings with a special history or enjoy the viewpoints along the way.

Was it the taverns? Or the Wetterstein Mountains with the Zugspitze? Maybe the view of the Murnauer Moos? The manageability of the place in contrast to big cities like Berlin, Budapest or Vienna? Parents' villa? The experiences in the place? The reverse glass painter Heinrich Rambold? The encounters with the painter Gabriele Münter? The summer and winter sports options? Why was the place not only the center of Ödön von Horváth's life but also a place of inspiration for almost ten years? Why are Horváth's works still so relevant today?

Discover the answers on this circular route. It leads to impressive scenic viewpoints, lets you explore buildings and inns with a special history and shows you unusual sides of the town of Murnau. During the walk you will learn a lot about the writer, his works and his connection to Murnau experiences, personalities and events.

Good to know

Directions

You start at the town hall in the pedestrian zone and go up the Untermarkt. When you arrive at Obermarkt, turn left onto Griesbräustraße. To the left, Bahnhofstrasse takes you to Ödön von Horváth Square in front of the culture and conference center. Here you go right and later left through the culture park. At the end, follow the signs to “Münter Haus”. You then cross the railway tracks for the first time. As you continue, turn right again. Then turn left onto the street “Am Dünaberg”. Turn left twice onto EIblwiesweg. A footpath takes you to the right again over the railway tracks. You reach Kottmüllerallee and turn left towards Münter-Haus. Above the Münter House, continue on the footpath. You already know the section of the route. You pass the train tracks again and don't go left through the cultural park, but rather onto the park path and then to the right down the moat. Then turn into Schlossergasse and you will be back at Untermarkt. The road takes you left back to the starting point.
