Hike

The circumnavigation of Lake Staffelsee, one of the warmest lakes in Bavaria with its seven islands, is a classic hiking trail in the Blue Land. Although you have to have enough stamina for the route, which is over 20 kilometers long, it is particularly attractive with its views of the lake and the foothills of the Alps.

Good to know

Directions

You start your hike at the Staffelsee outdoor pool in Murnau and first walk along a wooded path along the southern shore of the lake with a view of the island of Wörth (the largest of the seven islands) on your right. In the 9th century there was a monastery complex there and then the Seehaus parish church until 1773. From 1774 and 1782 it was rebuilt in the town of Seehausen itself due to the complicated access route - people had to go to church by boat or, for a while, over a small footbridge. A small archaeological park now characterizes the layout of the monastery complex. The island itself belongs to the Free State of Bavaria and is leased along with the castle-like building found there.

After around 6 kilometers you will reach the so-called Obersee, which impresses with its mossy landscape. Rare plant and animal species can be observed in this nature reserve. Swimming is prohibited here, but beautiful rest areas offer a tempting and dry alternative.

After 13 kilometers in Uffing, hikers who are already tired can take the motor ship from the Gasthof Alpenblick back to the starting point, or at least take a long break in the beautiful beer garden right on the bank or in the adjacent outdoor swimming pool.

The tour continues first through Uffing, then on a hill to Rieden and from there on to Seehausen, where there are again nice places to stop for a break. From the boat landing there you can either have a boat back to the parking lot or complete the last 1,5 kilometers on foot.

safety instructions

In an emergency, please contact the nearest rescue control center. Regardless of your location, you can reach them anywhere in Germany by calling 112.

The hiking and cycling paths we describe are primarily used for forest management; you use them at your own risk (Section 14 Para. 1 BForestG).

Author's tip

If your legs are tired, it's worth taking a break in the beer garden of the Seerestaurant Alpenblick or in the adjacent outdoor swimming pool.

It is also possible to shorten the tour after 13 kilometers with a boat trip (the ship departs from the lakeside restaurant).
