Enjoy a ride on the nostalgic mountain railway in Oberammergau up the Laber. A comfortable gondola floats up to the round Laberkuppe from the Oberammergau district of St. Gregor at an altitude of 1684 meters. The Laber, Oberammergau's local mountain, is not necessarily one of the highest peaks in the Bavarian Alps, but it is certainly one of the most panoramic.
As if from a balcony, you have a wide view of the foothills of the Alps with its many lakes and, when the weather is good, as far north as Munich. The Ester Mountains with Wank, Fricken and Krottenkopf, the Wetterstein Mountains and the Ammergau Alps form the impressive mountain arena on the other side from east to south to west.
After this feast for the eyes, you can take care of your physical well-being in the mountain restaurant and strengthen yourself for the numerous hiking trails. Markus Urban's good cuisine in the summit restaurant invites you to have a snack while enjoying the breathtaking view of the surrounding mountains.
Note for KönigsCard holders:
1 x daily free ascent and descent (during regular travel times)
Hiking at the Laber
The Ettaler Manndl (only for experienced people!) is easy to reach from Laber. The descent via Soila Lake offers impressive natural experiences.
Laber ski area
In winter, the Laber is one of the most demanding ski areas in Bavaria, which is particularly appreciated by freeriders; even the moderately difficult valley run variant is only recommended for trained downhill skiers. The footpaths into the valley are closed in winter.
